This beautiful, wallet size - 2 1/2" x 4 1/2", laminated Our Lady of Juquila holy card, bordered in gold, depicts the Blessed Mother dressed in a flowing white gown. The diminutive statue of the Virgin (30 cm tall) came from Spain in the 16th century with a Dominican priest who brought Christianity to the indigenous peoples of Oaxaca, Mexico. The statue was moved to a Church building, which later burned down along with the entire town it served. The statue of Our Lady alone survived, the skin of the Virgin much darkened, now more closely resembling the Oaxacan people who loved her.
